Leap Year Day will be when we make the leap towards the television of the future. As of 29 February 2012, SRG will be offering the six TV stations SF 1, SF zwei, TSR 1, TSR 2, RSI LA 1 and RSI LA 2 in high definition. SRG's HDTV stations will be offered via satellite and in Switzerland via almost all cable and telephone networks. Ask your specialist retailer or cable or telephone provider how you can best enjoy this new television experience.
HDTV stands for High Definition Television. HDTV picture resolution is up to five times higher than that of conventional television, producing pictures that are much more detailed and with better colour definition. In addition to the familiar stereo sound, it also offers viewers digital surround sound – just like at the movies!
The test and promotional station HD suisse went off air on 31 January 2012. HD suisse has fulfilled its role as a showcase for major live events and for the increasing number of in-house HD productions from all four of Switzerland's language regions. Stations will be broadcast in HDTV in parallel with standard definition until at least 2015. This gives viewers plenty of time to upgrade their hardware.
