23 April is World Book and Copyright Day. This annual fixture, launched in 1996 by UNESCO, aims to raise public awareness of books as a part of our cultural heritage and to promote reading. The day has been celebrated in Switzerland since 2005 with over 500 events in libraries, bookshops and public places around the country. The slogan for World Book and Copyright Day, sponsored by SRG SSR and organised by the Swiss Book Lobby – Switzerland’s network of literary organisations – with support from the charitable foundations Pro Litteris and Pro Helvetia, is «Switzerland reads. What about you?»

SRG SSR’s Enterprise Units showcase literature not just on World Book and Copyright Day, but throughout the year, devoting a whole series of programmes to authors and their works.
